Humanity First started formally as a registered charity in 1994 in the U.K. Since its inception, HF has responded to several disasters and served hundreds of thousands of victims in various affected communities. Soon, the organization’s scope of operations expanded beyond disaster relief to several sustainable human development projects and initiatives around the world.

Today, Humanity First is registered in 43 countries across 6 continents. Its operations are primarily funded by grass root donations from individuals, corporate gift matching, and various other grants. The dedicated volunteers of Humanity First are the force behind the good work that the organization delivers, who bring their professional industry experience to the benefit of the affected communities. It also leverages preferential rates for relief equipment, logistics, and other needed supplies benefiting from global sourcing.

Humanity First USA was incorporated in the United States in 2004 as a 501 (c) (3) not-for-profit organization (EIN# 20-0464012).  Since then, HFUSA has served in disaster and human development areas within the US as well as in several other countries around the world. These include serving the victims of Asian tsunami in Indonesia, Floods in Guyana, hurricane Charlie and Katrina in the US, South Asian earthquake, Peru earthquake, Bangladesh cyclone Sidr, etc. It has also supported several elementary schools in the low-income metropolitan areas around the US. Humanity First has also established and is running several vocational training centers in Guyana, Liberia, and several other locations around the world.

These have included the earthquakes in Turkey, Pakistan, Japan and Iran, floods in Africa and Latin America, hurricanes (Katrina and Rita) , tornado's (Kansas) and wild fires (California) in the USA, Indonesia and Bangladesh, and conflicts in Eastern Europe.

Since its inception and IRS registration in 2004, Humanity First has been focused on spending most of the raised funds on direct program related expenses. As a result, more than 90% of its funds are in that expense category. This is achieved through dedicated volunteers in its management, and program operation teams.
